Put That Weight Down

Don’t place your hands on the table

as if you’re steadying the present.

Take a deep plunge, into your lungs

and relish every second.

Forget that you ever thought you didn’t deserve this,

We’re all allowed to have something near perfect.

The aching in your head can settle down,

You no longer need to scan the crowd.

Just skim the surface of the collective energy,

That whole “I am you and you are me”.

For once, try not to feel everyone’s “everything.”

You should be very grateful and ever so nervous,

but don’t be scared because worry is worthless.

This is truly yours to take,

and if you’re earnest and loving it surely won’t break.

A heart isn’t a China shop,

and you aren’t the bull that doesn’t belong.

And you choke back tears because it means so much

oh you sabotage your own good luck.

I tell you now to loosen up-

as you were intended all along to feel this love.
